Not only did Dark Knight Court cleverly play on the title of one of Batman's best known nicknames, but the episode dished out homages to a number of superheroes who eventually formed the elderly team of Dependables. I will admit, the mash up of Marvel and DC characters onto a single team does make the purist in me a little unconformable, but the parody was still pretty memorable.
Inspired by the reclusive millionaire with a stately mansion and damaged psyche (just like him), Mr. Burns was inspired to don the guise of Fruit Batman in the 24th season of The Simpsons. Smitthers paid off Springfielders to stage crimes so Burns could play the hero.
Among the villains lampooned were the Joker, Penguin, and Bane (elevated to the elite crowd after stealing the show in The Dark Knight Rises).
The Crazy Cat Lady even got in on the act as Catwoman.
But all heroes eventually need partners.
And Fruit Batman got help from Early Bird
and Hot Flash along with Nick Fury and Iron Lung. Octogenarians assemble!
